Since 1982, the members of TheaterGemeinde Berlin have selected a new Berlin production as the performance of the year every year. Performance of the year 2021 was “The Threepenny Opera” (Berliner Ensemble). The prize was awarded on September 18, 2022.
“The Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht (lyrics) and Kurt Weill (music) with the collaboration of Elisabeth Hauptmann was staged by Barrie Kosky, the musical direction is Adam Benzwi. The production had its premiere on August 13, 2021 at the Berliner Ensemble, the location of the premiere, and celebrated its 50th performance in June.
